It has been over six months since little Frodo, the female koala joey, came into care at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. Wildlife veterinarian Dr Amber Gillett's assessment of Frodo revealed she had sustained a fractured skull and significant damage to the stomach and intestines as a result of being shot with what appeared to be the spray of a shot gun. X-rays revealed approximately 15 pellets scattered throughout her body.

Six months later and staff at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital are amazed at how far Frodo has come. Weighing a tiny 1.9kg upon admission, little Frodo has overcome horrific injuries and health challenges and is ready to return to the wild.

"I am so happy that Frodo is ready to be released; she has come such a long way from the sick little girl that was admitted to me here at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital six months ago," Dr Amber said.

Dr Amber carried out a final veterinary assessment on Frodo for an overall progress check, and to tag and micro-chip the youngster.

Frodo captured the hearts of people all around the world who have followed her progress from the moment she was admitted to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. The Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital want to extend a huge thank you to all those who donated towards Frodo's recovery.

You can donate to other koalas like Frodo who are in care at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital or support the Greens Party effort to list koalas as vulnerable.

Tasmanian Atlantic Salmon Aquaculture Fish Farm
Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown yesterday congratulated the Marine Farming Review Panel on its decision to reject Tassal's application to expand its Soldier's Point salmon farm in the D'Entrecasteaux Channel.

"In the submissions to the application decision, scientists and concerned citizens pointed out the lack of big picture planning for aquaculture, use of antibiotics and anti-foulant on nets, nutrient overload of marine systems and the paucity of information about the Channel and the dolerite reef which has ultimately scuttled the application," Senator Brown said in Hobart. Senator Brown also made a submission slamming the proposal

Greens Leader Bob Brown, along with local residents and organisations, has made a submission to the Marine Planning Panel's review of Tassal's request to expand its Soldiers Point salmon farm, which held a public hearing in Hobart today.

"Many of these submissions expressed serious concerns about antibiotic use, damage to the marine environment, sustainability and noise. However, the panel's written response to these submissions had too little scientific basis and too much unsubstantiated opinion," Senator Brown said

The Australian Greens are disappointed with the Government's newly released Australia's Biodiversity Conservation Strategy 2010-2030, saying it offers little hope for reversing Australia's declining natural diversity.

“This strategy is totally inadequate. There is a distinct ambiguity to the five year national targets, and there is no mention of the financial support given,” Senator Rachel Siewert, Greens spokesperson for Natural Resource Management said

Deadly Australian Native Wildlife Redback Spider
An office receptionist got a nasty shock when she found a 70cm long snake entangled in the web of a deadly Redback Spider. Tania Robertson, a receptionist at an electrical firm, came in to work on Tuesday and spotted the dramatic scene next to a desk in her office. The snake, which had obviously died from the spider's poisonous bite, was off the ground and caught up in the web.

It is believed the snake was bitten on Monday night. A red mark on the snake's stomach was evidence of where the spider had started consuming it. Throughout Tuesday, the spider fed on her prey, and on Wednesday she rolled it up and started spinning a web around it while lifting it higher off the ground

Yesterday's United Nations report finding of a 31 percent loss of wildlife since 1970 represents an unprecedented environmental crisis and challenge for the Rudd government, Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown said in Canberra.

"Extrapolate this report's findings and 90% of the bulk of wildlife will be gone in a century. But government policies are making the crisis worse, not better

Alligator Bites Golfers Arm Off

Alligators were portrayed as less dangerous than crocodiles by the late Steve Irwin, and he was often pictured holding one. The sleepy old 'gators at Australia Zoo may be docile, but retrieving a golf ball has cost a man an arm in the United States. A golfer in South Carolina was reaching into the water to retrieve a ball when he was attacked by a two and a half metre (8ft) Alligator.

The alligator seized the mans left arm and rolled, tearing it off at the shoulder. Shocked onlookers tried to staunch the flow of blood and comfort the victim until paramedics arrived. He was rushed to hospital by helicopter while a hunt for the rogue Alligator began

Sam the Koala rescued from Victorian Bushfire
Sam the Koala, made world famous by this photo with CFA firefighter David Tree during the devastating Victorian bushfires in February, has died. Sam survived the deadliest bushfires in Australia’s history with serious burns to her feet, ears and nose. Mr Tree said that although it appears that Sam is holding his hand, he had poured some water into his cupped hand and she is actually cooling her burns.

Sam was successfully rehabilitated at the Southern Ash Wildlife Shelter in Rawson but was subsequently found to have Chlamydia. Chlamydia is a bacterium that infects a wide range of animals, including birds, sheep, cattle, horses, pigs, cats, mice and even humans
