Triathlete Emma Snowsill Named Indy Grand Marshall
October 8th 2008 04:06
The Gold Coast’s Olympic Gold Medal winning triathlete Emma Snowsill has accepted the role of Grand Marshall for the 2008 Nikon Indy 300, October 23-26 - celebrating her new position this afternoon by checking out Pit Lane aboard her own speed machine.
The 27 year old triple world champion, who calls the Gold Coast home, is currently preparing for the Noosa Triathlon on November 2 but took some time out from her busy training schedule to check out the continuing track construction.
With only weeks remaining until Indy ‘08, Snowsill said she was thrilled to accept the role of Grand Marshall for the four day spectacle she grew up with.
“Indy is such an iconic Gold Coast event, it sweeps everyone up in the excitement,” said Snowsill.
“It’s truly one of the worlds greatest street races held in the heart of the city, I think it’s definitely the speed thing I love the most” she said.
“I’ve undertaken numerous roles since Beijing but to be asked to do the Grand Marshal job is something I never thought I’d get to do.”
“It has been the most fantastic ride since coming home from Beijing with so many functions to attend but I really need to knuckle down and put in some quality training over the next few weeks.”
“The bike leg of the triathlon accounts for half of the race, so it’s time to dust off my two wheeled machine and get into gear for the Noosa Tri.”
Nikon Indy 300 General Manager Greg Hooton said he was pleased to be able to welcome Snowsill to the Event team.
“Emma is an accomplished athlete, accustomed to doing her best and striving for the next highest goal, which is something that we are continually doing here in trying to bring the Event to the Gold Coast and Australia,” said Hooton.
