Student Poverty

Have I not updated for a week? I tried, but between computer failures, a lack of internet at home, and a lack of funding to use internet elsewhere, i haven't been able to.
Yes, living without a job is hard. Suddenly everyday things like catching a bus, or eating cause issues because there is simply not enough money in your bank account.
Canned Bi-lo beans, bread and instant coffee does not an healthy diet make, especially when one has dietary needs and limitations. And concidering the whole reason I'm in North Queensland, far from my home is Uni, taking the week off because I can't afford to go is not an option.
Other students, living out of home are all probably nodding right now; This is a common issue experienced world wide by students.
What can I do? Live off AusStudy? It is not enough. Continue sponging off my parents? I want independance. Get a job? Trust me, I've tried, as have the other thousand odd students rocking up into this town every semester.
Jobs- I think I've applied for several dozen by now. But again, as a student, its difficult to find a job that won't intrude on my study, won't cause me public shame and will allow me a chance to go home for the holidays.
A year and a half later, I still have no job. Most don't bother replying. The rest either reject me straight out or worse, give me hope in a trial and then text me at four am to tell me otherwise (yes, text).
So for now I'll live off scraps and charity- babysitting tonight will tie me over until the end of the week, and next week? We may be back to thise Bi-lo cans and updateless.

I think one thing you need to do is keep your nets open. I mean, subscribe to all the job services -- seek, mycareer, careerone -- and set your search parameters for part time work. Also, list yourself with your university job service, if they have one.
Sometimes helps just to take a stroll in the restaurant area if you're prepared to wait tables (there'll be signs in the windows).
If you sign up to a temp agency -- for instance, for admin work -- you'd probably get some work through that.
