Floods Wash Out Gold Coast Soccer Match

January 27th 2012 09:02
A-League soccer flood water Skilled Park
Tonights’ scheduled A-League match between Gold Coast United and the Central Coast Mariners at Skilled Park was cancelled an hour before kick-off due to days of torrential rain across South East Queensland.

With a brief respite in the rain yesterday, it was hoped the game would proceed. Skilled Park has a state of the art drainage system which has kept the playing surface usable, in spite of water filling the carparks and lapping the stadium itself,

With the Bureau of Meteorology predicting more rain, the risk was deemed too great and the game was called off.
The GCU versus Mariners game will be rescheduled at a later date and possibly a different venue.

Central Coast Mariners currently top the ladder, eleven points clear of their nearest rival, Brisbane Roar.
