Senator Bob Brown Deplores Australia's Massive Wildlife Loss
May 11th 2010 03:58
Yesterday's United Nations report finding of a 31 percent loss of wildlife since 1970 represents an unprecedented environmental crisis and challenge for the Rudd government, Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown said in Canberra.
"Extrapolate this report's findings and 90% of the bulk of wildlife will be gone in a century. But government policies are making the crisis worse, not better."
"The Greens call for an immediate review of the nation's Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act to make ministerial action on protecting habitats and species mandatory. The destruction of native forest, woodland and wetlands should be prohibited by the EPBC Act," Senator Brown said.
