Remote Detonates Explosion In Plumbers Van
October 22nd 2009 06:09
A remote door locking device has acted as a detonator, destroying a plumbers van in a massive explosion in suburban Melbourne today.
An oxy-acetylene gas bottle, which was stored in a cabinet in the new VW transporter van was apparently leaking throughout the night.
Two apprentices were lucky to escape unscathed when one of them activated the remote door lock, igniting the trapped gas and blowing the van apart.
The blast shattered windows and hurled parts of the vehicle onto neighbouring roofs.
Plumber Mick Ponton’s house was extensively damaged but no one was injured in the accident.
