The fans were ecstatic as big Dell mimicked a didgeridoo solo while his team mates performed an impromptu corroboree dance.

The Indigenous side led 10 – nil at half time, after Ben Jones scored in the 32nd minute, but the All Stars hit back in the second half. After a try to Josh Morris in the 54th minute and a long range try by Benji Marshall 4 minutes later, to make it 10 – 8, the outcome hung in the balance.

When Michael Jennings scored for the NRL All Stars in the 61st minute, it put them in the lead for the first time. However, man of the match Jonathon Thurston put Jamie Soward into space for a runaway try in the final minutes to make it 16 – 12, clinching the victory for the Indigenous All Stars.
NRL Indigenous All Stars Pitch Invader
This guy was hard to tackle

The record crowd of 26,687 was delighted with the outcome and there were very few incidences of bad behaviour. A pitch invader gave security the run around, to the cheers and jeers of the crowd, until he was finally brought to ground and escorted away. The prelimnary game between the NSW Indigenous Under 16's and the QLD Indigenous Under 16's was won by the Blues, 24 - 14.

Adding injury to insult, the NRL All Stars defeat resulted in injuries to Matt Gidley (knee) and Darren Lockyer (bicep). Jonathon Thurston was named man of the match and awarded the inaugural Preston Campbell Trophy.
