Miss V8 Supercar Grid Girl Uniforms Unveiled
July 1st 2010 05:01
V8 Supercar drivers Jamie Whincup and Alex Davison roared into Burliegh beach by jetski today, bearing the models revealing the Miss V8 Supercar grid girl uniforms.
Armor All Gold Coast 600 General Manager Shane Howard said the look was cleverly designed by local designer Karen Nielson to connect the Miss V8 program with the new Gold Coast event and V8 Supercars ambassador Pink.
“These fantastic designs combine elements of fun and glamour as well as having a sporty and edgy feel, precisely what Pink, and the Gold Coast epitomise every day,” Howard said.
Born and bred on the Gold Coast, Karen Neilson has been designing swimwear for the past 13 years. The winner of six RAQ Fashion Awards was inspired to create the cut-away style black and pink swimsuit, and the grid outfit featuring a black and pink vest.
“The grid outfit incorporates a leather look vest, with a laced eyelet front and silver GT stripes and stars, teamed with silver hot pants and black boots topped off with a leather look cuff featuring the GT stripe, and stars with laced eyelets,” Neilson said.
“Keeping with the concept of ‘Rock Star’, the swimsuit also features racing stripes and stars, giving the girls a fresh new look, for a new generation of racegoers,” she said.
V8 Supercar reigning champion Jamie Whincup said he thought the new designs would bring a sporty and fun edge to the look of the Gold Coast event after last years debacle.
“The event has been reinvented and is already generating a real sense of excitement throughout the V8 Supercar field, so I think it’s good that they’ve come up with a great new look for the girls,” Whincup said.
The Gold Coast grid girls will be part of the official search for the Face of V8 Supercars. The competition is conducted during selected rounds of the V8 Supercar Series, with auditions featuring photographic, interview and swimwear appraisals, held before each round. Organisers will be auditioning Gold Coast contestants in the last week of August.
The Armor All Gold Coast 600 will continue the V8 Supercars highly successful Rock ‘n’ Race format. It will feature 18 international drivers alongside the V8 drivers by day, and 16 international and Australian performers by night. Tickets for the Gold Coast 600 start at $49 and include admission to the V8 Supercars and the 600 Sounds superstars.
