Manly Stuff that is no longer Manly
June 19th 2007 00:03
From The Best Article Every Day, this post about tough guy stuff that lost its edge when it got accepted by the mainstream:
Too true - tattoos used to be a roughneck thing, something for bikers and convicts... then middle class kids decided to freak their parents out in the 70s. Sure, that was edgy and counter-culture, but when those kids grew up into accountants and engineers, you knew it was long gone.
Now, kids are being counter culture by NOT getting a tattoo.
About motorcycles:
Ha!
"Once the symbol of nonconformity in a hopelessly conservative political landscape, the tattoo has now become the exact opposite - total conformity posing as nonconformity."

About motorcycles:
"You’re a middle-aged marketing guy who joined a motorcycle club, rides your bike on the weekends, and secretly puts “Born to be Wild” or “Bad to the Bone” on repeat on your iPod Nano whilst cruising down 6th street at 41 miles an hour next to other similarly repressed middle-aged marketing guys."
Ha!
