Greenmount Beach Clubs New Chef And New Menu
March 31st 2011 08:20
It has been a busy month for Greenmount Surf Club which recently celebrated 100 years of patrolling the beach. Formally known as the Tweed Heads and Coolangatta Surf Life Saving Club, its members have been saving lives since 1911. The 100th birthday celebration featured a march past of former members, the ‘Old boys’, and displays of faded photographs, memorabilia and rescue craft of a bygone era.
Greenmount beach also hosted the State Nippers Titles in March, with representatives from clubs as far afield as Maroochydore and Airlie Beach. Greenmount Beach Club, the commercial arm of the club, has acquired a new head chef and kitchen crew and an inspired new menu.
The lunch menu features some classic favourites including a variety of steaks, burgers and pizzas as well as oysters, fish and chips, parmagianas and kids meals with a free ice cream.
Every Monday is ‘steak night’ with a 15 dollar special which includes a rump, T-bone or rib fillet steak served with chips, salad and a choice of mushroom, pepper or Diane sauce.
Wednesdays are ‘shanks, shiraz and jazz’ nights, featuring a live jazz band and a 15 dollar special on lamb shanks served with mashed potato and vegetables, with a glass of shiraz included in the price.
The a la carte dinner menu delicacies include beef Wellington, herb crusted rack of lamb, wild barramundi fillet on shellfish fricassee and Moreton Bay bugs with a pinenut farce.
Head Chef Luke Poignand said some of the meals, such as his signature dish, chilli salt squid served on an apple and macadamia salad, were out of the ordinary.
“I want people to step out of their comfort zone and try something new,” he said.
Some more of the extraordinary dishes featured include slow cooked beef cheeks,
cajun crumbed crocodile on peach and avocado salad, and corned beef braised in coca cola.
Greenmount Beach Club, located on Marine Parade, Coolangatta, is fully licensed and open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. Bookings are not required and parking is free.
