Gluten Free Food Show For The Intolerant
May 15th 2009 05:59
The Gluten Free Food Show will be held at the Brisbane Convention Centre this weekend, the 16th and 17th of May. Great news for sufferers of Coeliac Disease, Gluten Intolerance, fructose malabsorbption, bloating, wind or irritable bowel after eating.
There will be cooking demonstrations by celebrity chefs, information sessions by expert dietitians and a huge range of gluten free products on sale. Accredited practising Dietitian & Cook Book Author, Dr Sue Shepherd, initially ran the show in Melbourne to enable companies to showcase their products for people with special dietary requirements.
Celebrity Chef Tobie Puttock, of ‘Fifteen Restaurant,’ will be demonstrating his gluten free Ricotta Al Forno, Red Mullet with Saffron, and Florence Fennel with Black Olives.
Dr James Daveson MBBS, Consultant Gastroenterologist at Princess Alexandra Hospital; will discuss a recent trial using Hookworms in Coeliac disease.
“We have recently conducted a clinical trial at the Princess Alexandra Hospital where we reintroduced the human hookworm, Necator americanus, back into otherwise healthy individuals with coeliac disease.”
“There is a body of evidence emerging from around the world suggesting there may be a relationship between the recent upsurge in autoimmune diseases such as coeliac disease, and our current levels of cleanliness and sanitation – ie.the ‘hygiene hypothesis’.”
Hmm...
Tickets are available through Ticketek or at the door. The cost is $15 for adults, $12 concession and children under 12 enter free.
