The Best Little Club In The World

Currumbin Alley Club Crisp Wonton Duck
I had not dined at Currumbin RSL Club for several years so when I learned that it was the recipient of three Clubs QLD Awards in 2008, namely best RSL in Queensland, best club on the Gold Coast and best club food outlet, I had to check it out.

The a la carte restaurant, named ‘Alleys’ after the world famous surf break at nearby Currumbin Alley, has been recently refurbished in a sophisticated modern style.

The indulgent staff allowed us to move to another table twice until we were happy with a sunny spot on the covered deck, overlooking the broad and gently flowing Currumbin Creek.

The menu is a ménage of international flavours. Turkish bread, Tasmanian Pacific oysters, beef Rendang curry, mesquite smoked lamb loin and potato crusted salmon all contribute to the ‘around the world’ theme.

The crisp wonton cups with tamarind roasted duck and rice noodles was a refreshing cold entrée with a delicious dressing, and the pan fried eye fillet with scallops, prawns and béarnaise sauce was almost too much to eat.

Prices range from $7.80 to $14 for entrees and main courses from $15 to $25 with the exception of the abovementioned ‘surf and turf’ at $37. A children’s menu is also available at $8.50 per dish. Club members receive a price discount of about ten percent.

Alleys is fully licensed and is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. The team at Currumbin RSL are now well on the way to fulfilling their vision of being ‘the best little club in the world.’

Alleys is located on Currumbin Creek Road, Currumbin, and bookings can be made on (07) 5534 7999.
