Cooking With Kids – Festive Gingerbread Men Using Five Ingredients

Kids can get great satisfaction from cooking their own food. It is empowering, and good bonding for parents too. This simple recipe, with step by step pictures, is designed for making gingerbread men. It can also be used for something as simple as plain, round gingerbread cookies, or as elaborate as a Hansel and Gretel style ginger bread house.
Ingredients
100g Butter
190g Castor sugar
100ml Golden syrup
50ml Warm water
350g Self raising flour
3 heaped tsp Ground ginger
Method
Beat the butter and sugar together until creamed.
Add the golden syrup and hot water.
Gradually sift in the flour and ginger while stirring.
Mix the dough and knead well.
Roll out the dough using a rolling pin or a bottle.
Cut the dough into the desired shapes using a cookie cutter, an egg ring or a knife.
Bake on a greased tray at 180°c for approximately twelve minutes.
Decorate according to theme with icing if required.
