The Surfers Paradise Festival has wrapped up with the popular A La Carte In The Park on an overcast Saturday at Lionel Perry Park. There was ample opportunity to indulge the senses with many of Surfers Paradise’s best restaurants offering sample plates with nothing over ten dollars.
Live Music on the sound stage featured eighteen year old sensation Liam Burrows and the imposing voice of David De Vito. Cuisines from multiple cultures were represented at food stalls by Govindas, Montezumas, Hard Rock Café, Teppanyaki Noodles, Groove Train, Deja View and many more. The new Surfers Paradise Hilton was the major sponsor of the event.
Meeshs sample menu included Acacia berry bowl with crunchy granola and yoghurt, fried camembert with blueberry dipping sauce and a natural oyster tasting plate, all for $8 each.
Cooking demonstrations from the chefs of Surfers Paradise featured Ollie Maokhamphieu from Deja View at The Outrigger, Jean-Marc Heussner from Four Winds Revolving Restaurant, and Darcy Westwood and Thomas Verhagen from Hard Rock Café.
The Magic Chef appeared to amuse and bemuse with his Heston-like creativity and his comedy routine, even making it snow inside the marquise. Luke Stepsys from Bazaar Restaurant demonstrated a delectable semi cured ocean trout with fromage blanc and cucumber sorbet, with samples supplied to the delighted onlookers.
There were also ample bars catering to the thirsty throng. Mixologists Jonathon Jack and Nicholas James from Stingray Lounge Bar intoxicated the crowd with their cocktail demonstration featuring their ‘Masterchef Cocktail’ comprised of strawberry liqueur, gin, lime juice, balsamic vinegar, fresh basil and cracked pepper mixed in just the right proportions.
The wet weather did not deter food lovers as the attendance was as good as, or better than, any in previous years.
