Award winning chef Daran Glasgow is the Chef de Cuisine at Chill Dining & Wine Bar, in the world renowned restaurant precinct of Tedder Avenue, Main Beach, on the Gold Coast. Darran was at the Gold Coast Good Food & Wine Show on the weekend, with his team from Chill, demonstrating his delectable Thai beef salad, as well as tender crispy skinned quail with porcini mushroom risotto and truffle jus.
Daran has had an illustrious career working with many of the most influential chefs and finest restaurants in both Australia and the UK. Early in his career, he spent five years in England, working in celebrated Michelin rated Restaurants such as ‘Leith’s’ and ‘River Cafe’.
Daran developed his skills in the precision and consistency of fine food, and in particular honed his trademark pasta making skills, during this period. Daran attests to being both inspired and influenced by the styles of Gordon Ramsay and Marco Pierre White.
On his return to Australia, Daran continued to refine his skills in the kitchens of both Brian Duncan, of ‘Level 41’ fame and David Pugh, chef and owner of ‘Restaurant Two’ and ‘Two Small Rooms’ in Brisbane.
In 2000 he moved to the Gold Coast as executive chef of ‘Restaurant B’. During the next four and a half years, Daran’s skill and passion put this previously small tapas bar on the map as an award winning restaurant.
Daran then moved to the Gold Coast hinterland, the green behind the gold, to work at ‘Songbirds in the Forest’. It was here that he became further renowned for his culinary talents by winning three awards in the 2005 Restaurant & Catering Awards.
In 2006 Daran took control of Chill on Tedder, where he delights diners with masterful dishes including his signature dish, seared Queensland scallops with angel hair pasta.
Since then Chill on Tedder as won a swag of awards. Just last year, in the 2009 Restaurant and Catering Queensland Awards for Excellence, Chill on Tedder was named Queensland’s Best Chef-Owner Restaurant, Gold Coasts Restaurant of the year, and Gold Coasts Best Contemporary Australian Restaurant.
