Canada Day and The Logdriver's Waltz
July 2nd 2007 00:26
July 1st was Canada Day, and I did nothing to celebrate it, unless you can call gorging on BBQ duck and grapes a celebration of Canadian heritage.
I've never done anything big on Canada Day, except for that summer that I lived in the capital city, Ottawa.
Hah, just kidding. Everyone knows that the capital of Canada is Toronto.
One fond memory I do have about Canadian history are the little animated shorts that would play on Saturday mornings. A particular favourite of Canadians, regardless of age, is the Logdriver's Waltz:
You may be thinking 'What the hell was that?', but it brings back sweet memories of rushing waters and lumberjacks. I still don't know what 'Burling down the white waters' means, but I can take a guess.

I grew up in Pennsylvania, but I saw this as a kid. Also another CBC show that started out with a giant saying "Look up..wayy way up."
Remember that? What was that?

Yes, when I was a kid there were only NBC, CBS, ABC and PBS. PBS ran quite a few Canadian shows for kids.
I loved the Friendly Giant.
Funny thing too--in my elementary school in Pennsylvania (grades 1-6) French was a mandatory class. Guess we had some Canadian influence somewhere in there..
