Big Wheel In Brisbane – 60 Metres Above Southbank
November 29th 2008 11:22
The Wheel of Brisbane is the newest eye opener at Southbank Parklands. Towering 60 metres tall and weighing in at 350 tonnes, the ride has 42 air-conditioned cabins which can each seat up to six adults and two children.
The lofty vantage point provides breathtaking panoramic views of the city. Three or four revolutions of the wheel take between twelve and fifteen minutes to complete, before returning its occupants safely to earth.
Fully owned and operated by World Tourist Attractions Australia, The Wheel of Brisbane is lit by thousands of LED lights, reminiscent of the London Eye. South Bank Corporation Acting Chief Executive Stuart Schramm said The Wheel is one of the most exciting additions to Brisbane’s skyline in recent years.
“The Wheel of Brisbane is one of the best new attractions in South East Queensland
and South Bank is a fitting foundation for the Wheel, a location that’s recognised as
the cultural heart of Brisbane and a number one tourist destination for visitors,” Mr
Schramm said.
Open seven days a week between 10am and 10pm, a ride on the Wheel Of Brisbane costs $15 for adults, $10 for children under 12 and $2 children up to three years old. Tickets are cheaper if purchased online.
Be warned, though! The ride may be $15 but Southbank Corporation charge a ridiculous $36 for a half days parking at Southbank, even on a Sunday!
