Australian Native Wildlife - Golden Orb Weaver Spider

This large spider weaves an orb web, of strong yellowish silk, in excess of a metre wide. It is usually strung in a sunny spot between trees or, in suburbia, across paths and around buildings. There are over 300 known species of arachnids on the Gold Coast, belonging to 50 different families, with many more yet to be identified.

Golden Orb Weavers (Nephila sp.) have purplish grey bodies with black and yellow legs. They inhabit warm moist areas along the East coast of Australia. They are capable of biting people when forced to defend themselves, but their venom only causes mild irritation.

Oh my god, Glen. This Golden Orb Weaver Spider is very huge in size! For those who have arachnophobia, you're better not to get closer with it!

i have one of these in my garden right by my kitchen window and above my sons sand pit .. i have a 2 yr old how do i get rid of this hes been there for months

Hi anonymous, I suggest you scoop it up with a straw broom or tennis racket and release it 10 or 20 metres away.
You could kill it but I do not recomend that as it is catching mozzies and flies for you.

there's a dang good reason why i hate spiders... and that spider is not as big as it seems...
