A La Carte In The Park
June 15th 2008 09:47
A La Carte In The Park celebrated it’s twenty-first birthday in Mitchell Park, Southport on the Gold Coast today with sunshine, fine wine, music and, of course, gourmet food.
Record crowds were able to sample everything from German sausage and Hungarian fried bread to Vietnamese spring rolls, Greek souvlaki and fresh Aussie seafood.
A wide variety of Gold Coast restaurants had stalls including La Paella Spanish restaurant, Govinda’s Vegetarian, Master Sushi, and Aztec Mexican restaurant.
Retail manager of Gold Coast Fishermen’s Co-op, Trevor Kleinschmidt said that A La Carte In The Park was a great way to showcase their products and promote their business.
‘We catch local fresh prawns, bugs and spanner crabs almost everyday, weather permitting,’ he said.
‘We are letting the public know they can come to our Co-op at the trawler wharf on The Spit, and buy a variety of cooked and raw seafood straight off the fishing boats.’
Also available at this year’s food fair was a fantastic recipe book entitled ‘Flavours,’ which features the not-so-secret recipes from no less than sixty famous Gold Coast restaurants.
‘Flavours’ is the brainchild of Liz Hamilton, Managing Director of Events Exclusive, and it is marketed through Restaurant and Catering Queensland.
‘There was no shortage of restaurants willing to be featured in the recipe book,’ Ms Hamilton said.
‘They were lining up, but we had to restrict it to sixty,’ she said.
Restaurants that contributed recipes are as diverse as the Gold Coast itself.
Songbirds in the Forest is on Mount Tambourine in the Gold Coast Hinterland whereas Flames On The River is set on the banks of the gently meandering Nerang River and seafood specialists Shuck are by the seaside at Tedder Avenue in Main Beach.
The styles of the contributing restaurants are just as varied. Multiple award winning restaurants such as Ciangmai Thai, Moo Moo Bar and Grill, Volare Italian Restaurant and Shogun Teppanyaki restaurant are all represented.
A La Carte In The Park is a free to enter event organised by Restaurant and Catering Queensland. A La Carte On The Beach will be their next public event held on the 24th of August, 2008 in Coolangatta, where traffic and parking arrangements may disrupted.
