A La Carte On The Beach
August 24th 2008 06:29
Thousands of tourists and locals alike descended on the annual A La Carte On The Beach food and wine festival, which was celebrated in perfect weather at Coolangatta beach on the Gold Coast today.
Showcasing a vast array of cuisine from around the world with dishes priced from $3 to $8, A La Carte on the Beach also featured, live music, cooking demonstrations, wine tasting and family entertainment.
Local restaurants represented included The Tandoori Place, Pancakes in Paradise, Sate House and The Crab Shack. The sight and smell of Vietnamese, Mexican, German and even Hare Krishna Cuisine permeated the air, while the VB tent and Daquiri van added to the convivial atmosphere.
Wine vendors doing a brisk trade included De Bortoli, Angoves, Mason Wines from the Granite Belt and the Gold Coast’s own Cedar Creek Estate and Winery. Situated atop Mount Tambourine in the Gold Coast hinterland, the Cedar Creek Estate vineyard produces two grape varieties, Verdelho and Chambourcin, the latter used to create a fabulous Rosé.
This free to enter festival is hosted by Restaurant and Catering Queensland and the Gold Coast City Council. A La Carte on the Beach forms part of the Tastes of the Gold Coast festival, which runs for two weeks from 22 August until 7 September.
Festival organiser Wendy Lacey said free entry and sampling the best of the Gold Coast lifestyle makes this one of the most popular annual events on the food calendar.
'Gold Coast locals enjoy an incredible lifestyle of fresh seasonal produce and world-class restaurants; we invite visitors to the region to meet the winemakers, chat to the chefs and take in some inspiring natural settings, from the ocean to the hinterland in this year’s annual food and wine festival,' she said.
